BOSTON (AP) - Shake off the winter blahs and grab a fishing rod. Some of the
state's reservoirs are opening to anglers. Starting Saturday,
fishermen will be allowed to try their luck at Wachusett Reservoir
from dawn to dusk, but only from the shore.
At the Quabbin Reservoir, the season will open April 18. The
state Department of Conservation and Recreation says residents can
take advantage of boat launching sites in Belchertown, New Salem
and Hardwick.
The Quabbin Reservoir supports 27 fish species, including
lake trout, landlocked salmon and smallmouth bass. Officials say
many of the same fish can be found at Wachusett, in addition to
sunfish, catfish and rainbow trout.
Fishermen must have a valid Massachusetts state fishing
license.
