Zappos to pay for some Turnpike tolls

Allston/Brigton Tolls will be free from 5-7PM

BOSTON (WWLP) - If you are traveling to Boston on the Mass Pike Wednesday night, part of your trip will be a little less expensive, thanks to a famous online retailer.

Between 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M., the online shoe and clothing retailer Zappos.com will be paying the cost of tolls going in both directions at the Allston/Brighton toll plaza. Both cash and Fast Lane customers will be able to pass through the normally $1.50 toll plaza for free.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, approximately 16,000 vehicles passed through the Allson/Brighton toll plaza during that time period on the day before last Thanksgiving. “By teaming up with Zappos, it is my hope that we can make drivers a little less stressed about their commute during the holiday,” Mass DOT Secretary and CEO Richard Davey said.

In addition to paying for the tolls themselves, Zappos is also paying for all signage announcing the tolls.
