CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The most obese state in the nation is putting its foot down when it comes to banning sugary drinks.
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed into law this week that cities and counties in the state can't ban Big Gulp beverages or put other local regulations on food and drink.
Some legislators are calling it an " anti-Bloomberg" bill.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has tried to limit consumption of super-sized soft drinks.
Tom Ewing of Longmeadow told 22News, “I think New York is probably on the right track. They are a problem overall and between that and getting exercise I think it's probably the way to do it.”
Governor Bryant, who is a runner, says it's up to individuals, not the government, to make responsible choices about healthful living.
