CVS requires workers to share health info

Employees must report health check-up results

(WWLP) - Soon CVS employees will have to reveal their health screening results to their employer if they don't want to pay a penalty.

Workers who use the company insurance plan must have a doctor check their weight, body fat, blood pressure and glucose levels by May 1st. Then they need to report those numbers. If they don't, they'll have to pay a penalty of $50 per month.

This new policy has some people questioning if this is an invasion of privacy.

“I like the idea that if you're healthy, you have incentives, so you are rewarded for that, and the other people who I guess choose not to lead a healthy lifestyle have to pay for that,” said Shannon Harrington of West Springfield. “But I see where people wouldn't want to give their private information every month and submit it.”

CVS said in a statement, "To encourage a higher level of participation in our wellness review, we reviewed best practices and determined that an additional cost for those who do not complete the review was the most effective way to incent our colleagues to improve their health care and manage health costs."
