NEW YORK (WWLP) - The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit 14,000 for the first time since the economic collapse and start of the "Great Recession" on Friday.
The Dow reached 14,000 around 10:00 A.M., before coming back down slightly seconds later. The index has remained just shy of 14,000 through the late morning into the early afternoon.
Reaching the number is significant, as the last time the average was above 14,000 was on October 17, 2007.
The Dow has gained 6.7% since the start of the year.
