NEWPORT, Tenn. (WBIR) - A Tennessee school bus driver is in jail after authorities say they found her inside of her school bus drunk.

Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes said the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in Newport behind the Newport Presbyterian Church.

He said he had received a tip that 39-year-old Cheryl Hembree, of the Parrottsville area, had just bought a 24-ounce bottle of beer.

Fontes then said the caller told him Hembree had taken the bottle to drink inside of her school bus.

Detective James Holt and Cocke County School Resource Officer Randy Cutshaw were then dispatched to the scene.

The two men then found Hembree inside of her school bus with the engine running. It was there where they also found an open bottle of beer.
