Senate passes resolution on Iran nuclear program

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Just after midnight, the Senate voted to pass a non-binding resolution on Iran.

It reaffirms America's efforts to discourage Iran from developing a nuclear weapons program.

The senators want the president to continue to use economic sanctions and diplomatic pressure to force Iran to stop any weapons development.

A stopgap budget measure to keep the government in business also passed but now the lights are out in the House and Senate chambers as lawmakers focus on the November election, leaving behind the most partisan, least productive Congress in memory.
