SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (1919 – 2010) - Beverly F. (Field) Farrand Barnes, 91, of Springfield, died on Friday August 13, 2010 at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center. She was born in Springfield on January 3, 1919 the daughter of the late Charles and Blanche (Sanderson) Field and was a graduate of the former Springfield Technical High School in Springfield and also received an Associate’s Degree in Bookkeeping from Baypath Junior College in Longmeadow.

Beverly was employed by the City of Springfield as a payroll officer in the Springfield City Clerk’s Office and retired from the Springfield Treasurer’s Office. She also was employed by the former Diamond Match Company and the former U.S. Envelope Company. Beverly was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Corna Chapter # 205 of East Longmeadow and the Robert Morris Chapter # 51 in Holyoke. She was a past matron of the Adelphi Chapter # 2, formerly of Springfield. Beverly was a mother advisor for the Faith Assembly Order of Rainbow for Girls, a member of the Daughters of the Nile of the Melha Temple in Springfield and a member of Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield. She also volunteered for over 20 years at the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Springfield. I

n addition to her parents, Beverly was predeceased by her first husband, Robert T. Farrand who died in April of 1984; and by her second husband, Lee R. Barnes who died in October of 2002. Beverly will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her including her dear friend and “adopted daughter”, Barbara S. Roberts of Springfield; her cousins, Bill Sanderson and his wife Mary Lou of Wilbraham and Lee Sanderson and his wife Bette of Easthampton and their families; several nieces and nephews including her nephew and godson, Mark Sanderson of Windsor, CT; her stepdaughter, Sherry Graybeal of The Villages, FL; her step-son, Robert Barnes of Great Barrington; and her many extended family members and friends.

A visiting hour will be held on Tuesday August 17, 2010 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, followed by a funeral home service at 11 a.m., with committal services and interment to follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, both in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverly’s memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Baystate Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut Street, 6th Floor, Springfield, MA 01199.
