Everett J. Hodge

(1918-2012) - Everett J. Hodge, 94, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 3, 2012 in the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke.  Born in Chicopee, son of the late Everett and Frances (Irons) Hodge, he lived in Agawam over seventy years.  Everett worked as a foreman for over forty years at the former Trade Company Incorporated in Springfield, retiring in 1984. He was on the board of directors at the Captain Charles Leonard House and one of the founders of the Chalk Liners Theater Group in Agawam.  He was a longtime member of the First Baptist church, serving as a church moderator for forty years, a deacon, a member of the Mr. & Mrs. Club, head of the Baptist Youth Fellowship and was a bell ringer. He was also a World War II army veteran. 

His wife, Aletha (Barden) Hodge died in 2008.  The family would like to acknowledge Everett’s caregiver, Corina, for the many years of kind and compassionate care she gave to him. He leaves a son and his wife, Gary B. and Sharon Hodge of Westfield, a daughter and her husband, Lorie L. and Charles Baker of Agawam, four adored grandchildren and their spouses, Kent Hodge and Sherry, Justin Baker and Jill, Kimberly Jalbert and David, Joelle Phillips and Mark, eleven precious great-grandchildren, Stephen Hodge, Hayley Phillips, Taylor Jalbert, Madison Jalbert, Ethan Phillips, Serenity Hodge, Mason Phillips, Aiden Jalbert, Carly Baker, Samantha Baker, Gavin Jalbert, two sisters-in-law, Dorothea Barden, Adele Barden, a nephew, Paul Barden, and two nieces, Mary O’Brien and Linda Barden.  He was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice Herie and Gladys Hodge.

The funeral will be Saturday at 1pm at the First Baptist Church, 760 Main Street followed by burial in Agawam Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours and Agawam Funeral Home is in charge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church.
