(1915-2012) - Filomena (Santaniello) Alfano, 97, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 8, 2012. Born in Springfield, daughter of the late Pasquale and Rose (Grimaldi) Santaniello, she grew up in Italy and came back to the United States in 1938. She was a member of the Agawam Golden Age Club Chapter 1, the Friends of the Senior Center and a volunteer at the Agawam Senior Center. She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church and presently Sacred Heart Church. She was also a member of the St. Ann Society. Her husband, Ernest Alfano died on Sept. 20, 1976 and a son, Emilio “Baca” Alfano in November 1985.
She leaves a son, Pietro Alfano of Florida, a daughter, Philomena O’Connor of Agawam, a daughter-in-law, Vicki Alfano of Monson, six grandchildren, Ernesto Alfano, Kathy Gawron, Cindi Alfano, Elise Clark, Michael O’Connor, Kevin O’Connor, three great-grandchildren, Daniel Gawron, Rebecca Gawron and Michael A. O’Connor and two dear friends, Ann Landers of Agawam and Rosemary Ryan of Westfield, She was predeceased by two brothers, Antonio Santaniello, Giuseppe Santaniello, and three sisters, Clara Daniele, Carmela Bonavita and Gelsomina Denardo.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on Thursday at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 1103 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills, with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield. There are no calling hours and Agawam Funeral Home is in charge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Agawam Senior Center, 954 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
