(1923-2011) - Fred W. Amos, 88, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2011. Born in Montgomery, AL, son of the late Richard and Estelle (O‘Neal) Amos, he came to Ludlow in 1967. Fred was a United States Air Force Veteran proudly serving his country for 24 years during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his time in the military, he did Nuclear testing in the Pacific and Marshall Islands before retiring in 1967. He later worked for Steigers and the Army Air Force Exchange Service at Westover AFB and also was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Fred was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Blanche “Doris” (Kartz) Amos, who predeceased him in January of this year; a loving Father to Fred W. Amos Jr. and wife Susan, of Illinois, Margaret Ann Larkin and husband Michael, of Leominster, Ma., and Barbara Jean Hudson, of Orange County, Ca; a dear brother to the late Richard S. Amos, JR. and Ruth Lang; a cherished grandfather of 7 and great-grandfa ther of 9; and also leaves several loving extended family members and dear friends.

Funeral services are on Friday morning at 8:30am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian burial at 9:30am followed by burial in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 11:00am. Visiting hours are on Thursday evening from 6-8pm; and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred’s memory to the Springfield Rescue Mission 19 Bliss St. Springfield, Ma. 01105, Alzheimers Association 264 Cottage St. Springfield, Ma. 01104 and The Living Tree Fund Holyoke Soldiers Home 110 Cherry Street Holyoke, Ma, 01040 for the benefit of Fred Amos.
