(1943-2012) - George H. Martin, 69, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 17, 2012.  Born in Springfield, son of the late Henry J. Martin and Beatrice H. (Perron) Ziminy, he lived in Springfield and Virginia before moving to West Springfield thirty-five years ago.  George was a mechanic for thirty-two years for Houser Buick before he retired in 2004.  He was a former member of the Italian Sporting Club in Agawam, and had bowled in the Service League at the Agawam Bowl.  He was a Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay and a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

He leaves his wife of forty-seven years, Patricia A. (O’Neill) Martin, a son, Michael J. Martin of Feeding Hills, a daughter and her significant other, Aimée M. Martin and Angel L. Morales of West Springfield, a brother and his wife, Raymond J. and Regina Martin of Springfield, two sisters and their husbands, Mary Y. and Francis Amellin of Feeding Hills, Anne M. and John Benecki of Pennsylvania, his cherished grandchildren, Tyler M. Dubay-Martin, Madison N. Martin-Morales, his mother-in-law, Eleanor F. (Cooley) Malaguti of West Springfield, his brother-in-law and his wife, John and Betty O’Neill of Chicopee and several nephews and nieces and close friends.  The family would like to thank the staff at Country Estates Nursing Home for the compassionate care that was given to George. 

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30am from the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street with a Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 11:30.  The burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday 4-8pm. Donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Attn. Gift Processing, Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or to the charity of one’s choice.
