(1925 – 2010) - Mildred Anne (Brown) Morin, 85, of Springfield, died on Sunday June 27, 2010 at the Redstone Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in East Longmeadow. She was born in Fitchburg, MA on February 7, 1925 a daughter of the late Alvah L. and Rose (McCaffery) Brown and was a graduate of Fitchburg High School. Mildred attended Fitchburg State College and received her Registered Nursing Degree from Springfield Technical Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Westfield State College. She was employed as a registered nurse at the Northampton State Hospital. She was a member at Holy Name Church in Springfield. Mildred cherished her family. She enjoyed cooking, biking, swimming and being in nature. She was a lover of the arts and enjoyed writing poetry throughout her life. She also enjoyed traveling, most especially to her beloved Ireland. Mildred was proud of her Irish heritage and being a nurse. She preached education as being the most important thing to her family and grandchildren.

Mildred will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her including her daughters, Tara Rahkola of Lenox, MA, Natalie Morin-Ryall of Chatham, MA, Maura Morin-Stevens of Suffield, CT, and Megan Morin of Springfield; her son, Daniel Morin of Westfield; her grandchildren, Ryan and Justin Morin, Chantal and Gabrielle Ryall, and Taylor, Hadley and Peri Stevens; her sisters, Elizabeth Paquet of West Yarmouth, MA and Helena Semerjian of Lunenburg, MA; her brother, Walter Brown of Leominster; and several nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Joel Rahkola; her brothers, Robert, Billy, Tommy, Syd and George Brown; and by her sisters, Rosemary Bergman and Mary Brown.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 1, 2010 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road in Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Friday July 2, 2010 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson Street, both in Springfield with Rites of Committal and Interment to follow in West Suffield Cemetery on Mountain Road in Suffield, CT.
