(1932 – 2009) - Richard C. “Dick” Hervieux, Sr., 77, of Northfield
died peacefully at his home on Wednesday November 4, 2009
surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Springfield, MA on November 1, 1932 a son of
the late Wilfred and Natalie (Boule) Hervieux. Dick attended
Springfield Trade High School. He served his country during the
Korean War in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. Dick began his
career working for his father as an independent contractor. He was
also employed by the Friendly Ice Cream Corporation in Wilbraham
for over 40 years, retiring in 1994. After his retirement, he
relocated to Northfield. Dick was a member the United Church of
Northfield. He was a dedicated father and grandfather who enjoyed
spending time with family and friends. Dick was well-known in local
bingo circles and maintained his reputation as a jokester and
storyteller. His hobbies included tinkering around his home,
hummingbirds and tending to his raspberry bushes.
Dick was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Enid F.
(Britain) Hervieux who died on January 18, 1993. They were married
on June 27, 1952. He was also predeceased by a brother, Jerrold
Hervieux. Dick is survived by his four children, Bonnie L.
Hervieux-Woodbury and her husband Allan of Northfield, Paul R.
Hervieux and his wife Doreen of Springfield, Carl R. Hervieux and
his wife Marie of Feeding Hills and Richard C. Hervieux, Jr. of
Springfield; his six grandchildren, Kristain and Pamela Hervieux,
Paul Hervieux, Jr., Tanner and Taylor Woodbury and Amanda Hervieux;
his three great grandchildren, Matthew Rivera, Jr., Xavior Negron
and Andrew Auclair; his sister, Marilyn Schweitzer of East
Longmeadow; his brother, Ronald Hervieux of Springfield; and his
many extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday November 9, 2009 at
2 p.m. at the United Church on South Main Street in Northfield. A
funeral home service will be held on Tuesday November 10, 2009 at 1
p.m. at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21
Tinkham Road with Rites of Committal to follow in Hillcrest Park
Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, both in Springfield. There are no
visiting hours. Donations may be made in Dick’s memory to the
