(1924-2013) - Roy E. Johnson, 88, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 27, 2013.  Born in New Britain, Ct, son of the late Andrew E. and Elisabeth (Sjostrom) Johnson, he grew up in Feeding Hills and attended Agawam Schools.  He graduated from Springfield Trade School.  He has lived in Southwick for over fifty years. Roy was the owner the Roy E. Construction Company.  He was a World War II army veteran serving in the Philippine Campaign and receiving two bronze stars.  He was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 872, the American Legion Post 185 and was in the Carpenter’s Union Local 108 for sixty-three years.  Roy bought a Model A Ford when he was sixteen for $34 and was a member of the Western Massachusetts Model A Restorer’s Club.  After being discharged from the army, he was in the army reserves for many years. He was on the board of directors of the Feeding Hills Cemetery Association and volunteered at the Southwick Senior Center. 

He leaves his wife of forty-five years, Josephine A. “Jo Ann” (Coupas) Johnson, a step-son and his wife, James A. and Nancy Neill of Naples, FL, a brother, Jarl Johnson of Florida and California, two step-grandchildren, Amy L. Monson of Fresno, CA, Jeffrey R. Neill of Hudson, OH, two nephews, Aric Johnson of New York, Brian Johnson of North Carolina, and a grandniece, Sonia Johnson Miller of Florida.  He was predeceased by a sister, Aiva Johnson. 

The funeral will be Monday at 11am at Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street followed by burial in Springfield Street Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southwick Volunteer Ambulance Association, 11 Depot Street, Southwick, MA 01077 or the charity of one’s choice.
