(NBCNC) - If you're finishing up plans for a holiday trip next week, you are not alone.

More than 43 million Americans will travel this Thanksgiving according to AAA.

"That is up a little less than 1% than last year, but it is the 4th consecutive year of increase," notes AAA President and CEO Robert Darbelnet.

Most will make that trip, in the family car, driving an average of 588 miles, down from more than 700 miles last year.

One main reason is the cost of a fill-up.

"It peaked in September and it's been declining since, but this will probably be a record year in terms of average gas prices," Darbelnet notes.

For those who fly, AAA says on average ticket prices are down just a bit, and so are the number of passengers.

Still, there will be more than 3-million moving through airports over the holiday.
