Obama to announce gun law plans Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - President Obama will announce his plan to reduce gun violence Wednesday.

The plan, based on Vice President Joe Biden's recommendations, is the administration's response to last month's mass murder in Newtown, Connecticut.

It could potentially include proposals like banning assault weapons and limiting high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Some people told 22News they think the process they went through to legally get a hunting rifle was fair and strict enough.

Nathan Lutz of Syracuse, New York, told 22News, “You know, I don't see what's stopping criminals from being criminals. No matter how strict the gun laws are, they are still going to find ways to get them. It's just really negative effect on the people that do abide by the law.”

President Obama said his proposals will not cancel out the Second Amendment. His announcement will be streamed live on our website.
