Springfield, Mass. (WWLP) - From the national stage to backyard politics, the intensity of many campaigns has been hard to miss.

Amanda Buckley, a sophomore at Western New England College, said, “Yea they're very, they're just there all the time so it's kind of annoying."

Some like Paul Skowera of West Springfield say the onslaught of ads, especially negative ones, is not only annoying but distracting.

He said, "We're tired of the ads, we shut the TV off and we haven't been watching it for 5 days, we’ll start watching on Wednesday."

Despite some heated campaigns many political experts say it's all relative and compared to other states Massachusetts has actually been pretty tame this election year.

Join Baick an Associate Professor of History at Western New England College said, “I'm a little surprised that in Massachusetts things haven't been more heated, certainly nastier than normal but they haven't been as heated as in Connecticut or other parts of the country, certainly the west coast."

He said this midterm election could set a precedent for what elections will look like in the future, "We haven't seen this kind of political heat in a political campaign in 100 years; we're talking about the kind of nastiness and personal detail."

He continued, saying, “This election is 24/7, 365."

Still, some say the best thing is to take it all in, both good and bad, to make the most informed decision come Election Day.

Maxine Sepanak explained, “"I think it's very interesting, it's very informative and we've had enough of that but no I'm now sick of it."
