BOSTON (WWLP) - One of the most closely-watched Senate races is coming to a close, and with just a week to go, a new poll shows Democrat Elizabeth Warren opening up a lead over incumbent Republican Senator Scott Brown.

The new WHDH/Suffolk University Poll shows Warren has the support of 53% of likely voters, with Brown drawing the support of 45%. The poll shows that Brown maintains a lead with independent voters, but Warren has been cutting into that lead by winning over women and urban voters not affiliated with a party.

Brown needs to win big with independent voters, as he did in the 2010 special election, in order to overcome the advantage Democrats have with registered voters in Massachusetts.
