(WWLP) - Holyoke City Council President, Kevin Jourdain is among the several thousand delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
But the delegates are seeing the first day of the Convention wiped out, canceled because of Tropical Storm Issac moving thru the Gulf of Mexico.
The same thing happened in 2008 at the GOP Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul. The first day's session was canceled then because of Hurricane Gustav that hit Louisiana.
There's extra excitement this year, however for the Massachusetts delegation because former Gov. Mitt Romney is the party's Presidential nominee.
Jordain told 22News that knowing Romney and him being from Massachusetts makes the Convention for he and the other delegates a bit more special.
This is Jordain's third time as a delegate. He was one in 2004 at the Convention in New York City and also was one in 2008 in Minnesota.
The Massachusetts delegation is staying at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina. Mitt Romney will be staying there when he arrives to accept his party's nomination.
