BOSTON (WWLP) - State lawmakers have given final approval for Governor Deval
Patrick to appoint someone to temporarily fill Ted Kennedy's Senate
seat until the special election.
On Thursday, the governor will announce who he's selected to
do that.
Typically a law would not take effect for three months, but
Gov. Patrick will declare an emergency so the law can take effect
immediately.
Possible choices for the seat include former Governor Michael
Dukakis and the former chairman of the Democratic National
Committee Paul Kirk. Kirk has the support of the late senator's two
sons, Patrick and Edward Jr.
The governor will make the announcement at 11:00 a.m. at the
Statehouse. Then, he will head here to the Big E in West
Springfield to celebrate Massachusetts Day.
