WASHINGTON (WWLP) - He's a little older, a little grayer, and a lot more experienced- President Barack Obama is getting ready to take the Oath of Office for a second time. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to gather for the Inauguration on the National Mall in Washington on Monday, but first, the President will be formally sworn-in in a much more intimate setting.
President Obama will be officially sworn-in to begin his second term just before noon on January 20 at the White House, surrounded by his family. Vice President Joe Biden was sworn-in earlier in the morning at his official residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory.
Because the this traditional Inauguration Day falls on a Sunday, the grand public ceremony has been moved to the next day. Former Presidents Clinton and Carter are expected to be among the estimated 800,000 that will be in the crowd; a far smaller number than the record 1.8 million who attended Obama's historic first inauguration. Still, that anticipated attendance figure is much higher than other recent second-inaugurals, such as that of President Bill Clinton in 1997 and President George W. Bush in 2005.
