(NBCNC) - It is party time in New Orleans.

Fat Tuesday, the end of the Mardi Gras festival season is in full swing, but this year beads aren't the only thing falling from the sky.

A lingering rain continues to fall, pushing some inside to continue the party, while outside the weather hasn't scared off the crowds or the cash.

Close to a million people have poured into New Orleans and they spend $144 each on average during the festival.
