For the fourth consecutive year an increasing number of Americans will brave the highways this holiday season.
AAA says more than 93 million people will travel over 50 miles, most of them by car.
"We know it's still a very easy, flexible way for families to travel," notes AAA's Nancy White.
Falling gas prices could be pushing consumers out the door.
Nationally the average price of regular unleaded gasoline is down about 12 cents from a month ago.
AAA predicts those prices will keep dropping.
The money saved in gas will likely get spent on other travel related costs.
Travelers planning to rent a car this holiday may notice the biggest increase in costs.
The average cost of a rental car is up 41% compared to last year, with the average daily rate about $56.
The trend, however, doesn't seem to be impacting consumers' demand to spread a little holiday cheer away from home this year.
