HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gov. M. Jodi Rell has nominated Appellate Court Judge C. Ian McLachlan to Connecticut's highest court.

He would replace Justice Barry R. Schaller, who last year reached mandatory retirement age of 70.

McLachlan is 66 and lives in Chester. He has served on the Appellate Court since 2003 and was first appointed to the Superior Court in 1996.

His nomination awaits legislative confirmation.

Rell says McLachlan has the experience, integrity and depth of knowledge for the job. He has written extensively on family law and tax issues.

As a Superior Court judge, he presided over juvenile matters and complex litigation cases.

McLachlan says he's "honored and humbled" by Rell's confidence in him.
