EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - The story of a mother who gave birth to eight babies in California through in vitro fertilization is stirring debate about the ethical responsibility of doctors.
Dr. Robert Howe from the Reproductive Medicine Center of Western Massachusetts said multiple pregnancies are high risk and can potentially lead to mental or physical disabilities.
Dr. Howe said they follow strict guidelines at their office when helping women get pregnant through in vitro and believes there should be a national standard for the procedure.
The young mother is still recovering at a California hospital. Her babies are doing well so far. There is no word on when she will be released.
