SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The three men accused of burning a predominately black church the morning after the election of President Obama, were arraigned in U-S District Court in Springfield.
21-year-old Thomas Gleason Jr., 22-year-old Benjamin Haskell,
and 24-year-old Michael Jacques pleaded not guilty to conspiracy
against civil rights. All three have been free on 100-thousand
dollars bail since Monday.
On Tuesday, a federal grand jury indicted the trio on the
charge conspiracy to violate the rights of the congregation of the
Macedonia Church of God in Christ, a crime that carries a possible
10 year sentence.
The indictment alleges the men talked about their racial
motives before setting the fire.
