SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Police have arrested the owner of a used car dealership for allegedly bilking customers out of thousands of dollars.
22News I-team reporter Jaclyn Cashman says at least five victims have already come forward.
Good Deal Auto in Springfield is accused of taking customers' hard earned money and then never delivering a car and now the business could be shut down by the city.
About two months ago, Iris Polanco paid more than three thousand dollars cash for a used SUV. Today she is paying for the car insurance, but is still relying on friends for a ride. The reason: her pal Frank Colon who translated for her told the 22News I-team, the Boston Road used car dealership still doesn't have her car ready.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told the 22News I-Team Good Deal Auto owner, Jon Hastings has taken other people's money and they too remain without wheels.
Sgt. Delaney told the I-team police arrested Hastings Monday on charges of larceny by scheme over 250 dollars and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Sgt. Delaney says the police department currently has five victims, not including Iris Polanco.
One day after his arrest Hastings can be seen inside his Boston Road business Tuesday, but Sgt. Delaney told 22News police are asking the city to shut down the used car dealership and they've sent the complaints to the attorney general's office.
If you think you've been wronged by Good Deal Auto, go to the Springfield Police Department and fill a police report with the auto theft squad or call them at 787-6355.
