SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Parents in Springfield say more needs to be done about bullying in city schools.
22news received several phone calls from angry parents reacting to the news that an 11-year old killed himself because of bullying at school.
Brian Newton and his ex-wife moved their now 15-year old son to Agawam Schools after he was relentlessly picked on at Forest Park Middle School.
Another woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told 22news her 9-year old daughter has been bullied at Freedman Elementary School for the last two years.
Both parents said they asked for more protection for their children, but were not satisfied.
Azell Cavaan, a spokesperson for the Springfield Public Schools, said, in a statement, that there is a no tolerance policy for bullying at schools.
Cavaan also says there is a program in elementary schools called 'Steps to Respect' that teaches children about bullying and the consequences.
