Springfield, Mass. (WWLP) - The MSPCA has always helped man's best friend find a home. But
now the MSPCA itself is in desperate need of help. This year will
be the last Valentines Day adoption event at Springfield MSPCA.
Three MSPCA shelters in the Bay State are closing their doors
due to debt. The building on Union street officially closes on
March 31st. Lines of people anxiously awaited on Valentines Day to
adopt an animal. And its not just dogs.
There's plenty of cats, bunnies, and an assortment of other
animals that will need to be placed. Those animals who don't find
homes before March 31st will be brought to the O'Connor Center run
by the city of Springfield.
The MSPCA rescues nearly 7,000 animals a year. Staff members
told 22 News they are exploring other options apart from the MSPCA
and are still hopeful.
