CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - There is new information concerning the financial crisis
plaguing the MSPCA that caused it to unexpectedly close three of
its locations and what will happen to the pets.
The President of the MSPCA, Carter Luke, held a news
conference Friday morning at the adoption center on Union Street in
Springfield, which is scheduled to close on March 31.
Luke said that the closing of the Springfield center is due
to the current recession. The MSPCA lost $11.5 million in 2008. The
Springfield facility was also running $1 million a year deficit.
Luke said animals remaining at the adoption center at the
time of its closure will be transferred to other MSPCA shelters.
If you'd like to help-out, or adopt an animal, the MSPCA
encourages you to participate in its Valentine's Pet Adoption
Extravaganza. It will be held at the Union Street shelter on
Saturday, Feb. 14 and Sunday, Feb. 15 from 11:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m.
