ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) - The pellet company that is under fire by Attorney Generals in
two states said they want to refund money to customers who never
got the wood pellets they paid for, but it may take longer than
expected.
In a statement sent to 22News, New England Pellet Company
said they're seeking permission through the bankruptcy court to
convert assets into cash to give money back to eligible customers.
Attorney David Wenc said he has asked the Attorney General to
hold off on their lawsuit because it is slowing the refund process,
because any monies must now be diverted to the costs of litigation.
The company said they intend to defend themselves against
what they call inaccurate and out of context allegations. They seek
to determine whether the supplier and/or the deliveryman are
ultimately responsible to these wood pellet customers.
The statement says on their own initiative the company has
already refunded over $100,000 to many of their customers who paid
for pellets that were never delivered.
