SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - One Springfield community group in the Forest Park area isn't forgetting the needy children at the Sumner Avenue School this holiday season. 22News was there as members of “Springfield Forward" arrived with bagsful of warm clothing for the children.
The kids were delighted with the gifts from Forest Park residents. “I’m real excited because they gave us a great chance to have Christmas gifts before Christmas Day,” said fifth grader Chiquirria Walter.
“We have approximately 75 percent of our students that are low income and reduced lunch, and it’s especially hard for families who are out of work,” said Principal Lisa Bakowski.
A member of "Springfield Forward" told 22News they have sort of adopted the Sumner Avenue School.
