GRANVILLE, Mass. (WLWP) - Residents of Granville in Southwestern Hampden County went back in time Sunday to the days of the old fashioned ice harvesting, before modern refrigeration was invented.
It's all part of promoting the Noble and Cooley Drum Factory's proposed historical preservation museum.
Onlookers to this time honored ice harvesting method told 22News, they're delighted with this firm connection to the past.
"It wasn't that long ago that this was the only way we had refrigerators and it's really fun to see this old tactic and the old skills that are still being used and introduced to young people too," said Blake Axtell of Granville.
Just in case the fridge ever goes on the blink, it's nice to know we can turn back the clock and go ice harvesting just the way they did in the old days.
