(WWLP) - A wintry mix of snow, sleet , and freezing rain created a messy morning commute. State Police responded to several accidents on area roadways Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Brian Lee with the Springfield State Police barracks told 22News a pileup involving six cars and a tractor trailer on Interstate 91 South near the Connecticut border backed up traffic for hours.

At the same time, State Police responded to another  two-car accident on Interstate 91 South near exit 12, the Chicopee curve. There were traffic problems there as well. Sgt. Lee also said a three-car accident on Route 391 South by exit 4 injured one person.

And in Northampton a city-wide parking ban has been declared. For more information, click here.

This latest batch of winter weather has also complicated the recovery efforts to clear the debris and restore power in some areas after Friday's ice storm.
