Local woman receives new kidney

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A South Hadley woman and her friend are recovering from kidney transplant surgery at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

It's a story we've been covering on 22News for almost one year.

Julie Gentile underwent surgery to implant a kidney Wednesday.

As reported on 22News last week, Julie Gentile was scheduled to receive a kidney from her friend Nicole Skelly.

Hospital officials told 22News the operation went smoothly. Julie's sister texted 22News to tell us that "All is OK," and that "Julie and Nicole are sleepy."
