(WWLP) - It happened without much fanfare, but on July 31st Massachusetts made it legal to drive electric-powered cars on certain roads.

It is mostly just for driving around town. The "Neighborhood Electric Vehicle Ordinance" legalizes the driving of battery-powered vehicles on streets posted 30 miles per hour and below.

22News discovered it is not for everyone. West Springfield's Kyle Rosa said it's not for him; "It's not my style. I like gas. I like to go a little bit faster. I race cars up in Lebanon, so I like gas-powered cars, so I don't think I'd ever convert."

Global Electric Motorcars makes zero-emission vehicles that plug into a 110-volt outlet to recharge.

GEM calls itself "the electric choice for greener driving."
