AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - It doesn't cost a pretty penny to save a bundle by making your
home energy efficient. 22News is working for you with some ways to
save on your electric bill.
Go Green in Agawam sponsored an energy savings seminar on
Monday, where local homeowners learned the state is making it
easier than ever to make their homes energy efficient.
Go Green Co-chair Jill Messick told 22News putting thought in
your home energy plan now can save both money and the environment
down the road.
“You can call the phone numbers on your gas or electric
bill and they will send out an auditor to do an energy audit on
your home for free,” she said. “They will go through
the house with a fine tooth comb. I had one done myself.”
Messick said the best piece advice she's ever received was to
plug all of her electronic devices into a power strip and turn it
off when she left home or went to sleep. Over the course of two
months, she said she saved $98.
“If you have a blinking light or a clock anywhere in
your house, that thing is drawing a lot of electricity and you can
make a substantial difference,” she said.
Some homeowners may also qualify for discounts on insulation
or zero interest loans on a new furnace.
