SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Enshrinement 2010 will be like no other Springfield has ever seen. The basketball hall of fame released its plans for a week long celebration, starting Saturday August 7th. Some highlights include the unveiling of a monument in Mason Square, where Dr. James Naismith held the first basketball game and of course the actual enshrinement on Friday, August 13th.
Just when you thought it would be impossible to top Michael Jordan's induction last year. Jordan will be going in again as part of the 1992 Dream Team. He won't be alone. More than 50 hall of famers will be in Springfield for enshrinement.
"We're going to have more hall of famers in Springfield then we've ever had before, this makes total sense it's going to be a very exciting enshrinement", says Hall of Fame President and CEO John Doleva.
Doleva also told 22News that Larry Bird has not confirmed that he will be at the Enshrinement, but he is working on his schedule to try and make it back to Springfield. The only other members of the original Dream Team that Doleva said may not be able to make it are Clyde Drexler and Patrick Ewing.
Here is the official list of inductees from the basketball hall of fame:
The Enshrinement Class of 2010 includes eight individuals and two teams. The inductees include: Jerry Buss, Cynthia Cooper, Bob Hurley, Sr., Karl Malone and Scottie Pippen, along with two teams: the 1960 USA Men’s Olympic team and the 1992 USA Basketball “Dream Team.” The Class of 2010 also includes three legendary players: Dennis Johnson, Gus Johnson and international star Maciel “Ubiratan” Pereira, all of whom will be honored posthumously.
The Class of 2010 will go down as the greatest group ever enshrined into the basketball hall of fame.
