PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - Pathfinder's softball team reached the magical 10 win plateau to qualify for the Western Mass playoffs. Pathfinder senior catcher Megan Maska is the 22News athlete of the week.
"They have never really played together, so we didn't know what their chemistry would be", says Pathfinder softball coach Chris Pope.
Pathfinder senior catcher Megan Maska is working with a new pitcher this season. A freshman, her sister Jenna.
"It means a lot because I've never played with my sister whether it was on a team or in the front yard", says Pathfinder freshman Jenna Maska.
Megan put their sibling rivalry aside for the good of the team.
"When we're at home we fight a lot, but when we're here (on the field) we get along good", says Megan Maska. She continues, "I'm always cheering her on to try to make her do as good as she can."
Without Megan behind the plate, it may have been a long season for Pathfinder. Jenna is one of the fastest and more difficult pitchers to handle in Division Three.
"My finger has a bruise on it because she pitches really hard", says Megan Maska.
This combination has led Pathfinder back to the postseason. One of the key factors, it's really tough to run on this sister act.
"With Jenna's speed and Megan's arm it keeps kids glued to the base", says Coach Pope.
Megan chimes in, "I like it when they run, I always want to throw them out."
Those potential chemistry problems were all solved.
"The chemistry was...Megan was big sister as in not big sister hoarding the spotlight, big sister sharing like mad and taking pleasure in her little sister's success", says Coach Pope.
