SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - In 2010, AIC ended their regular season 6 wins and 4 losses overall under the leadership and direction of Head Coach Art Wilkins. Wilkins is now in his 19th year with the Yellow Jackets. After the 2010 season not turning out quite how he imagined, he is still extremely positive for the road ahead.
"I anticipate in a couple years, being a national team with the players we have here. I am hoping we can start achieving that this season,” Wilkins said.
With a stellar defensive line, AIC is looking to round out their game this year with more of an offensive mindset.
"I think it is going to be offense that is going to tell the tale for the first half of the year," Wilkins said.
Both Coach Wilkins and offensive standout Senior Captain Trevor Perryman agree that offense is a big focus this year. "It took a while for guys to get going on offense, but this year everybody seems really excited to come back. We definitely have to put points up early,” Perryman said.
After the 2010-2011 season, AIC graduated their captains as well as many other of the teams leaders. So this year will be a test for the younger players to rise to the occasion.
AIC begins their games September 3 at CW Post in New York. Their first home competition is at Abdow Field on September 17. Kick off is at 1:00 P.M sharp, so be sure to be there.
