WESTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The only thing slowing down the Hampshire Regional softball team is the weather. The Red Raiders are 3-0 and Hampshire catcher Bri Moussette is the 22News athlete of the week.
"We really want to win Western Mass and our league, that's what we're pushing for", says Moussette.
Hampshire finished as the Division II Western Mass runner up last season, and won Western Mass two years ago. Moussette understands what it takes to win in the playoffs.
"You definitely have to have good team chemistry and get along with your coaches and have a good coaching staff to help you", says Moussette.
Moussette is helping Hampshire at and behind the plate. The junior has just been crushing the ball this season. Moussette has three hits in every game this season. Her approach is simple.
"Just to hit the ball, get on base and drive people in", says the Hampshire catcher.
It was a struggle just to get on the field this season. Starting in 8th grade Moussette has had multiple surgeries on her foot. Her tendons were too short, so doctors have had to take her tendons out and put screws in.
"It was very hard for me", says Moussette. She continues, "It took me awhile to get back, but I'm back now and better than I have been."
Moussette had her most recent surgery in November and has one more planned in the summer. As a catcher your feet take a lot of punishment. Moussette says she never wants to give it up.
"I love catching, it's so much fun, you get used to it after a while", says Moussette. She adds, "If you're dedicated, you love it."
