EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Fast Track Medical Response Systems have come up with a chip that eliminates medical paperwork all together. By the parent or athlete registering online, they can update their information as much as needed.
It stores up to six paper pages of information that can be changed in an instance.
The chip with vital information, is velcro-ed into the helmet. A sticker on the outside of the helmet indicates where to scan. As soon as an injury occurs, the helmet is scanned and the players parental contact information and medical history is at their fingertips.
Northampton, Minnechaug, East Longmeadow High School and youth program all have helmets equipped with a chip. But, it is not limited to football, it carries over to hockey and lacrosse
After suffering a concussion and not able to remember his mother's phone number, East Longmeadow Senior, Chris Frappier, had his helmet scanned. Upon scanning his parents were immediately contacted.
By eliminating the time and incorrect diagnosis, an athlete can be treated faster for their injury. If the injury is very serious this simple device certainly can save a life.
