SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Falcons beat the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins 7-4 Friday night. The Falcons are now 2-1 this season. Saturday night is the Falcons home opener.

Rob Riley returns as the Falcons head coach. Springfield has missed the playoffs for eight straight seasons. To put that in perspective, every other team in the American Hockey League has made the playoffs in that time.

Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon believes that a winning team will put fans in the seats. "Our goal here is to have a good team on the ice, put a good product (on the ice) and with that, hoepfully the fans turn out in good numbers, that we can the franchise back as far as numbers where it has to be and where we want it to be, we feel very comfortable that we can get there and it all starts tomorrow night."

The puck drops Saturday night at the MassMutual Center around 7. There are still some tickets available for the game against the Providence Bruins.
