SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The American Hockey League All-Star game is Monday in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The Falcons lone representative is defenseman John Moore. This is Moore's first season in the AHL. He leads all Falcons defensemen in scoring.
Columbus drafted Moore in the 1st round of the 2009 NHL draft. Moore expects to have fun this weekend, but he understands that it is also a showcase, not only for the Blue Jackets, but for the rest of the teams in the NHL. Most of all, he wants to win.
"That's the inner-competitiveness in me though, I'm looking forward to competing and having fun, but I'm sure when the puck drops I'll be all business and ready to go", says Moore. He continues, "As much fun as it is, you want to end up winning, you don't want to be on the losing end of things."
Falcons head coach Rob Riley believes that this is only the start of great things to come for Moore.
"Everyone around the league notices John because he's such a good, fluid skater and he's really dedicated to the game", says Riley. He adds, "He's very passionate about it and it's kind of refreshing to watch his work ethic because he's only going to get better."
Moore is thrilled to be included in this prestigious event.
"It's a tremendous honor being named to it, especially with the amount of good players we have here in Springfield", says Moore. He continues, "I'm really excited to go there and just relax and have fun more than anything. I'm looking forward to it and it should be a great time."
Moore thinks he'll take part in Sunday's skills competition, possibly in the fastest skater event, but he said he won't know what he's doing until he gets to Hershey.
Moore and the Falcons beat Norfolk on Friday night, 3-2 in a shootout. The Falcons play at Norfolk again on Saturday.
