UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the contract tells The Associated Press that Tom Brady has received a three-year extension from the New England Patriots worth about $27 million. The 35-year-old two-time league MVP was signed through 2014, and has said he wants to play five more years. By redoing his contract Monday, Brady also has cleared nearly $15 million from New England's salary cap.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — The head of the baseball players union says more severe penalties could be in store for violating the sport's drug-testing program, and they could be in place by the 2014 season. Michael Weiner (WEE'-nur) says players are running out of patience for peers who try to get around the system.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has named Ian Kennedy his starter for the club's April 1 season opener against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. The right-hander went 15-12 last year, joining Brandon Webb, Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson as the only Arizona pitchers to post back-to-back 15-win seasons.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Derek Fisher is returning to the court with a familiar NBA team. The veteran guard, who hasn't played a game this season after going unsigned as a free agent, has inked a deal with Oklahoma City for the stretch run, just as he did last season after buying his way out of a contract with the Houston Rockets.

CHICAGO —The Blackhawks try to continue the best start to an NHL season when they host Edmonton as part of tonight's NHL schedule. Chicago has earned points in all 18 of its games this season as part of a 15-0-3 record.
