FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 yesterday. Felix Doubront pitched 1 2-3 scoreless innings in his first outing of spring training. Dubront's debut was delayed by a sore left shoulder. He gave up one hit, walked two and struck out two. He threw 43 pitches.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Red Sox slugger David Ortiz completed a base-running drill yesterday. It was the third time he'd done one this spring training as he comes back from an Achilles injury that limited him to 90 games last season. Meanwhile, righty Daniel Bard threw 18 pitches in a one-inning simulated game. He hasn't pitched in a game since February 25th.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The Red Sox made their first round of roster cuts yesterday. Left-handed pitcher Drake Britton was optioned to Double-A Portland. Shortstop Deven Marrero and utility player Justin Henry were reassigned to minor league camp.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots have released fullback Spencer Larsen and offensive lineman Kyle Hix. Yesterday's moves came after both spent most of their time with the Patriots on injured reserve, Larsen for one season and Hix for two. Neither played in a game.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Number 2 Notre Dame beat third-ranked Connecticut 96-87 last night in three overtimes to win Big East regular-season title outright for the second straight year. Skylar Diggins scored 29 points and sparked a decisive run in the third overtime. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis led UConn with 26 points and Kelly Faris added 21.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is among those asking a Rhode Island judge to dismiss a state economic development agency lawsuit over 38 Studios. Attorneys representing Schilling and others at his now-defunct video game company on Friday filed documents asking the judge to throw out the suit.
