WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It's the number one home-party event of the year. The Super Bowl may be about the championship football game, but there are a number of things for everyone.
“Commercials and halftime because I know Beyonce is going to be performing,” said Eddie Valentino of West Springfield.
The going rate for a 30 second commercial is up this year to $3.8 million. And you can't forget the food while you're watching or not watching the game.
Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest eating day after Thanksgiving.
Even though local teams aren't playing this year, that isn't stopping people from buying pizza in stacks.
Across the country, it's estimated 350 slices of pizza will be eaten per second.
And the Big Y in West Springfield had people snapping up so much more. It's estimated that $55 million dollars will be spent on food just for the big game... but there's one required eats.
“I don't think you can have a game without chicken wings of some sort nearby,” said Rich Gingras of Agawam.
Whether it's mild, medium or spicy, chicken wing prices are up 14% over last year but that won't stop people from eating more than 1.2 billion chicken wings over Super Bowl weekend.
But for the two Harbaugh brothers, it's all about the one Lombardi Trophy.
