RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Massachusetts scored three touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 28-7 win over Richmond on Saturday.

Jonathan Hernandez opened the scoring for the Minutemen (5-3, 3-2 Colonial Athletic Association) with a 2-yard touchdown on their opening drive. Kellen Pagel connected with Jessie Julmiste from 37 yards out to give Massachusetts an early 14-0 lead.

Hernandez capped off the scoring barrage with a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:26 left to play in the first quarter. Hernandez finished with 103 yards on 23 carries and three touchdowns. Julmiste recorded seven catches for 105 yards.

Tre Gray rushed for 105 yards on 10 carries for Richmond (3-5, 0-5), but the Minutemen played tough, recording four interceptions, six sacks and 18 tackles for loss and breaking up 11 passes.

Richmond has now lost five consecutive games and entered the week unranked in the Football Championship Subdivision for the first time since 2007.
