AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - The UMass hockey team is preparing for a home and home series with Northeastern this weekend.

The young Minutemen have started to gel. UMass has won three of its last four games, including a 6-0 rout of Vermont on Saturday. UMass is in 7th place in Hockey East, three points behind Northeastern. This weekend is a great opportunity for UMass to make up some ground.

"Every game from here on out are Hockey East points, so we knew if we want to make a climb in the standings every game is important", says UMass assistant captain and Springfield native T.J. Syner.

UMass head coach "Toot" Cahoon adds, "It's clearly an opportunity, it's clearly an important two-game set, it's a situation where this team (Northeastern) took a couple points away from us just a few weeks back."  "It's the difference in where we stand right now and I'd like to think that we can play well enough this weekend that we can make up some of those points."

UMass plays at Northeastern Friday and is home against the Huskies on Saturday night.
